Action Groups drive forward a range of citywide themed areas identified in Active York’s action plan. Each action group has terms of reference and priorities determined by the Executive Board. They are directed to make decisions on behalf of the Executive Board, co-ordinate the delivery of initiatives on the ground and, when appropriate, refer information back to the Executive Board for ratification. Occasionally, an action group may also have a dual strategic function for other statutory bodies. Action Groups can be either time or task limited and are established as and when the need arises.
Currently, there are 2 Action Groups in operation within the city.
Supporting and Recognising Performance
This action group leads the co-ordination and development of a range of services in the city that support and recognise sports performance. The group’s role is to -
- Identify and encourage opportunities for greater collaboration between providers in the city in order to enhance existing provision
- Develop new services and opportunities based on identified need
- Explore new or improved ways of working within the city that encourage innovation and creativity
The action group is also responsible for the management and development of the Fund for the Gifted. Click here for further information and to download an application form.
Sport Unlimited
This action group, led by Officers of the City of York Council, co-ordinates the Sport Unlimited programme within the city, an integral part of the Government's PE and Sport Strategy for Young People, often referred to as the "5 hour offer". The programme aims to extend the sporting opportunities on offer to "semi sporty" 5 to 19 year olds, in a sutainable way. "Semi sporty" is broadly defined as a young person who already does two hours of PE at school and one hour of sporting activity after school.
The action groups also manages and administers the Sport Unlimited Grant - funding available to voluntary sports clubs, community groups and organisations to provide sustainable activities for young people that take place within a community setting.
