This section focuses on sport and active leisure facilities in York.
The city currently has over 200 venues where sport and active leisure activities take place. The details of many of these are shown on Sport England's "Active Places" website.
Under the "Other Venues" page, we would also like to include information about facilities owned or run by clubs, organisations or private companies based in York and which are available for hire. So, if you have football pitches, tennis courts, netball courts, sports halls, artificial pitches, in fact any type of facility, and would like to promote the fact that they are available for hire, either to clubs or individuals, please let us have your information.
Facilities Planning in York
Active york are taking the lead on writing development plans to ensure that the city offers a range of facilities to cater for a broad range of activities to a standard that encourages people to participate in physical activity. We have carried out extensive facilities audits and carried out statistical supply and demand analysis for playing pitches and a range of built facilities. This analysis also factors in the city's projected population growth and our targets for increasing participation in sport and active leisure. We are in the process of writing our strategy documents for both built facilities and playing pitches which will identify our future facility ambitions, and the actions which will need to be undertaken by Active York and and our partners across the city to deliver them.
We aim to have these facility documents completed by May 2010. Once completed these documents will be available to download on these pages. The documents are also to be used to inform the Citys Local Development Framework planning document, where they will be used to advise the spatial planning for sport in the city.
If you would like to have input in the facilities planning process or if you have any comments or questions on facility design, development or planning please contact Vicky Japes in the City of York Council's Sport & Active Leisure team. |
